• Gary is a fantastic teacher. As an adult learner with a busy job it is important to me that my teacher is flexible, responsive, positive and fun to spend time with. Gary is all of that in spades. Gary is focused on teaching me what and in a way that works for me (rather than according to a prescribed formula) and I recommend him to anyone starting out with guitar later in life.

  • My teenage son has been having guitar lessons with Gary for a while now, and he loves them. He looks forward to his lessons, practises without being nagged and turns to his guitar for a bit of relief from the frustrations of year 8. What more could you ask? Gary encourages him, is relaxed with him, has a laugh with him and of course, imparts a huge amount of knowledge and experience at the same time. There is no pressure to do exams, although this is possible, and the music they play together is tailored around my son's interests, with some wild cards thrown in to expand his repertoire. His progress has been fast under Gary's expert guidance and the lessons are a pleasure to listen in to. Gary builds up a great rapport with his students and it feels like we are welcoming back an old friend when lesson time comes around each week. Highly recommended.

  • Gary has been teaching my 17-year-old son for almost 6 years now. He is tremendously patient, engaging and professional. Tomas has thrived and developed a deep passion for the guitar and a wide range of musical genres under his tutelage, creating a Spotify list of thousands of songs! Gary has a wonderful balance of discipline and humour that has made lessons fun and informative, he knows intuitively when to move on to something else if a piece isn't working or engaging him. Tomas thinks he is the best teacher he has ever had (and he loved his two previous teachers). Gary has become a part of the family and so easy to work with. Helena C Sheen

  • Gary is a really terrific teacher and my son's guitar playing has come on in leaps and bounds since he started lessons. He really enjoys it and no lesson is ever dull, with Gary increasing his wider musical knowledge and always coming up with something new and challenging to play. I recommend Gary to anyone else looking for a teacher for their child or indeed any adult wanting to learn/play better!

  • I've just finished my 125th lesson with Gary and it's fair to say through his infectious enthusiasm for the guitar and music in general, he has shifted my perspective on the instrument I hacked at on my own for 25 years and rekindled my passion for the guitar. When I began my search, I rang around a number of guitar teachers and and was initally quite shocked about how few of them were actually listening to me and instead insisted on trying to funnel me into their own specific programme of theory and grades. Then I was fortunate to make Gary's acquaintance on the telephone and within minutes I knew my search was over. Over the course of our conversation I felt confident Gary understood what I was looking for and was happy to cater to the kind of approach I wanted to take, and also appreciated that as 40 year old man with a full time job and family life, I needed a flexible and engaging teacher that was happy to work with me on that basis. Since then I've not looked back. Every lesson is unique, creative, inspiring, organic and funny. There's never any repetition, one week we may analyse a song by breaking it into pieces, then the next work on improvising to a backing track and the week after maybe looking at specific techniques. Gary has a incredible knack of knowing how to guide you, and sometimes our lessons will end up on a tangent far from where we started leaving me feeling like I've been on an odyssey of guitar enlightenment as I uncover patterns and join dots I should have seen years ago. To Gary I offer my heartfelt thanks for reviving my love for the guitar in such a profound way. And to the rest of you, I can only recommend that if you require a guitar teacher, you have most definitely found the right man.

  • Together with a friend, I’ve been learning guitar with Gary for about 6 years now and it’s been tremendous fun - I can't think why I waited so long before starting. We’ve been concentrating on some Classic Rock and Blues Rock (Clapton, Cream, Led Zep, AC/DC, Free etc.) and looking back it’s easy to forget how much technique we’ve picked up along the way. Gary is really good at spotting when it’s ready to challenge us with something new and finding the right song to both interest us and develop that next skill. Always at the start of a new piece, there is that nagging thought that this looks tricky, but Gary has a knack of breaking it down into bite size chunks, so soon you realize that you can play along to some classics.
